The age-old ritual known as vaginal steaming is said to have health benefits including uterine and vaginal cleansing, menstrual cycle regulation, relief from period discomfort and postpartum healing. The exercise has a strong meditative component.
Yoni steaming entails kneeling or sitting next to a pot of boiling, hot water that has been infused with herbs. To keep the steam from escaping, the lower torso is frequently covered with a blanket. The uterus and vagina are believed to be cleansed and comforted as the steam rises and the herbs enter the vaginal tissue.
