There are more breathwork trainings than ever, and they vary a lot in depth, safety and support. Before you commit your time and money, ask these eight questions. They apply to any school, including ours.
1. Is it accredited, and by whom?
Breathwork is not a regulated profession in most countries, so accreditation tells you an independent body has reviewed the programme. Look for recognised bodies such as CPD accreditation services, the Complementary Medical Association (CMA) or the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF), and check that the hours on the certificate match the real course.
2. How many hours of training are there?
A weekend course can teach you a technique. Guiding other people safely takes longer. Compare total hours, how many are live with a trainer, and how many are self-study.
3. Will you practise on real people, with feedback?
Supervised practice is where you actually learn to facilitate. Ask how many sessions you will guide during the course, who watches them, and how feedback is given.
4. How does it handle safety?
A good training teaches contraindications, screening, consent and what to do when someone has a strong reaction. Ask whether this is a full module or a single slide. Our guide to breathwork contraindications shows the basics every facilitator should know.
5. Online, in person or hybrid?
- Online: flexible and usually more affordable. Check that classes are live, not only recorded.
- In person: you feel the work in the room and practise hands-on.
- Hybrid: the flexibility of online with an intensive week together.
6. Who are the trainers?
Look for trainers who still facilitate regularly, not only teach. Watch their videos, read graduate reviews and, if you can, attend one of their sessions first.
7. What support do you get after graduating?
Ask about lifetime access to materials, mentoring, a graduate community, business guidance and a public directory listing so clients can find you.
8. What does it really cost?
Compare the full price, payment plans, what is included (materials, accommodation for in-person parts, bonuses) and the cancellation terms. Read the terms before you pay.
